Psychotherapy training programs offered in Toronto, such as the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy, has personal therapy requirements as part of the training process.   Self-awareness training is also often a requirement for membership to professional associations and a proposed requirement for membership to the newly forming College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario.

Having been engaged in the psychotherapy process both before and during my own training, I understand and have the experiential knowledge to support you during your training.  I also feel a special importance to providing support and care for those working and training in the service of the well-being of others.

In addition, participants of a study of psychotherapists engaged in personal therapy work view their personal therapy as a valuable and powerful experience with a long-term personal impact and ongoing influence on therapeutic practice.

Considerations favouring personal therapy include: awareness of the unconscious and of countertransference, increased empathy, minimizing blind spots, validating theory and method by first hand experience, and understanding how one’s own defenses interfere with the therapeutic process.

I believe that therapy should be accessible and affordable. More information regarding my fees can be found on the Fees & Policies page. Please contact me to schedule a complimentary first session to give you and I the opportunity to determine if I am the right therapist for you. I also welcome any questions you may have.
